Hi Friends and Family,Thank you for your interest in us and the ministry that God has called us to. We continue to be amazed at the adventure of following Christ and grateful for his rich provision. Here's what's been going on...
Redemption Groups are intensive courses where men and women can find freedom from the sin and shame in their lives. We have recently completed a men's group and a ladies group with encouraging results. Some of the participants are busy being trained so that we can offer these courses on a larger scale.
Weddings and Funerals - Cyndi has been regularly visiting a retirement home. Last month, an elderly gentleman she had visited each Monday passed away. The family asked Cyndi to say a few words at the memorial service. When they introduced her, they said she was his best friend. We had great opportunities to speak to a number of people there about the hope we have in Jesus Christ.
This past Saturday, Mark officiated at a wedding for a man who is dying of cancer. He had been living with his girlfriend for the past decade and after coming to faith, decided to do the right thing and get married. He is too ill to leave his home and so a number of friends and neighbours were invited to celebrate the occasion. In light of his impending death, it was encouraging to remind the crowd that earthly marriages are just a shadow of the real thing when Jesus will return to restore all things.
Family News - It was great to have Mark's parents stay with us for several weeks. They were in Cape Town coming alongside missionaries and full-time Christian workers to encourage them. The kids enjoyed having them so close.
Austin (13) is keeping busy playing guitar and helping with the audio visual ministry at church.
Ben (11) is drumming at church and has a natural ability with little kids. They seem to gravitate towards him.
Anita (8) is excelling in cross-country and is full of energy.
Mission Trip to Children's Home - In the July holidays, we are travelling to Kwa Zulu Natal with our Community Group and a few others to serve HIV + children. Our kids are so excited about this trip. They are helping to plan the games and activities that we will lead while there. We are needing at least R7000 ($800) for the trip and so will appreciate any gifts toward that fund.
Church Building - We have a peace of land that is paid for and have submitted plans for a basic church structure that will enable us to meet on Sundays and have space for children's ministry and a few offices. We have 75% of the building costs in savings and now need that final bit to start the project. Please pray for God to work in the hearts of our congregation and provide generously so that we can be more effective in our community.
Pastor's Conference - Last week, Mark was away in George (about 5 hrs away) at a conference. It was good to receive inspiring teaching and network with other leaders. Mark has come back with a renewed commitment to emphasize leadership development.
Training Electives - For the past 3 weeks, we have introduced electives on Sundays after the sermon. These are designed to equip our members with skills to live out their faith daily. We're off to a good start and the participants seem eager to learn.
Josiah Trust - In a response to our ministry in Klipheuwel (a nearby township), some of our members have formed a non-profit organization to assist the work to the poor and underprivileged. It has been encouraging to see the fruit of this initiative. It is now winter and the beginning of our rainy season; we are collecting blankets and warm clothing for those in need. We have helped to build homes and water-proof others. Please pray for more volunteers to serve in this needy area. The Lord said that the harvest is plentiful, but pray for more labourers. http://kuhnbradley.wix.com/josiahtrust
